Sacred Music:
Traditional or Contemporary?

The cartoon on this page shows an angel reading signs as you enter Heaven. One sign points you to the left...another to the right depending on which music you prefer. The controversy continues across the country on this issue. Many churches have two separate Sunday services, some have their contemporary service on Saturday night and the traditional service on Sunday morning.

Do you remember the third verse of the old hymn Onward Christian Soldiers?

"Like a mighty army moves the church of God;
...
we are not divided, all one body we,
one in hope and doctrine, one in charity."

A balanced worship service with a variety of styles should be the goal instead of sub-dividing the congregation by their musical preference. Why not put music back in all Sunday School classes and encourage each age group to sing what they want? Let's sing, clap and dance in Sunday School using tambourines and drums. The Worship service should bring the whole congregation together in perfect harmony, undivided! The Worship service is to connect with God and worship Him only in Spirit and in Truth.

When you enter Heaven will you ask for contemporary or traditional music? I'm not so sure that there WILL be a choice in Heaven because God's way is perfect and no person here on earth can comprehend the kind of music we will hear in Heaven. It will be unfathomable, combining the most beautiful tones with colors g1istening from the bri1liant jewelled harmonies. Choirs will be in perfect rhythm with dancers reaching magnificent heights as the cadence of the symphony crescendos with ultrasounds and glittering lights. Imagine the blend of instruments with angel choirs singing the great Amen echoing on sparkling streets of gold. Now just imagine hearing ten thousand harps and then the spectacle of hundreds of trumpets heralding the entrance of King Jesus. We shall behold the sp1endor and glory of such a sight and sound in absolute awesome wonder. No eyes have seen or ears have heard or has it been revealed to anyone what Heaven or the music in Heaven will be like.
