This piece by British composer Sarah Watts is taken from her collection Shades of Blue, which is great for introducing late-beginning to intermedate students to the rhythms of rock, jazz, and blues. The accidentals, grace notes, and syncopation in this piece are characteristic of the blues, while the various dynamic levels provide a vehicle for practicing interpretation and expression. The eighth-note passages present a fingering challenge that each student will have work out individually. Students may also note the form of the piece: ABA.
